Up the coast (Kaltag - Koyuk)

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Drobny, Ulsom and Beals have around 6 miles left to get to Shaktoolik.

Thanks, Mira. Official Race standings have no updates on Shak yet.

Shak is not a checkpoint this year. It was cut due to the virus.

14 miles between them. I’ll check again in a min to see if Thomas’ speed is just an anomaly or typical.

That explains it. I have not been able to follow the race this year. My first log in for 2020.

I was actually working (trying to get done the stuff I hadn't gotten done because I was incessantly tracker watching :) ). Didn't get to bed until 4 am... and can't stand it, so am back at my desk now, looking at analytics to see how long Brent rested. Bleary R us.

So Brent rested for 4 hours at mile 724 (Blueberry Hills), while Thomas rested in Shak at mile 754.

At 1:54 am, after 4:15 rest, Thomas left Shak. and set off across Norton Sound. He stopped once to snack his dogs about half way over.

Brent set off from the Blueberry hills just before 11 pm last night, got to Shak ~ 4 am, picked up supplies and continued to mile 762 and and snacked his dogs at ~6:15 am (just before the coast - not sure what's there - it's before the spit... Paige is resting there currently, so there must be some kind of protection (a bush?) right there). Then he set off across Norton Sound.

In the meantime, Jessie and Aaron had finished their rest in Shak and left there just before 6 am (right when Paige, Joar, and Travis showed up). Paige went straight through and travelled another 8 miles along the trail and stopped to rest at 7:50 am (and is still there as I type this at 9:20 am).

Brent went a third of the way across Norton Sound and stopped to rest at 8:07 am at mile 775. Jessie and Aaron are headed his way and Jessie has nearly reached him.

And right now, Thomas is nearing Koyuk (miel 804) at mile 796.

I'm going to wait until Thomas arrives, then will post some times (thank goodness for tracker replays and Excel - I have all the times from Shak.)

Looking at the live feed, there’s a bit of talk about Thomas’ team slowing down. And dogs not as peppy. The others are about 25-30 miles behind. That gives him a lead of about 3 hours? Exited to see your calcs, elsietee!!
Mmmmmm...... Unalakleet... DO'H!!!
