Up the coast (Kaltag - Koyuk)

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

No sure on mileage. I’ll post a pic when I’m on the computer again (on the phone right now).

But YAY - Richie left Kaltag - and Pete is right behind him.

That is Old Woman. There's a party there right now. Burmeister, Seavey, Mars, Royer, Sass, and meanwhile Waerner is about 12 miles from Unk :D

I wonder if (and when) the mushers will be told about the restored hospitality at Shak and how that might effect run strategies. Isn't that a spot that is typically well used for a rest?

Good question GK. Wonder if Joar will stop too. He's just a mile from it.

I noticed when mushers checking in at Kaltag they were told to be sure and see the posted message about Shak. That might have been the update about the cabin since they already had received the info that there was not an official checkpoint there.
