Koyuk > Elim > Golovin Bay > White Mtn

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

They are all running at mile 687 - around 21 mile to go now to reach WM.

What tales of the trail they will have to tell. Also the rescued three from yesterday.

The eleven are in a string from mile 877 to 882 led by Martin Buser. WM is mile 898 so they are nearly there.

The rookies have to be happy as heck that Martin was back there, running his young team this year! ( I'm just assuming they looked to him for some guidance/judgment.) Hope they get through OK.

Looks like the Golovin Bay was OK, and Golovin lagoon (between Golovin and White Mountain) is not OK. From Golovin they are crossing to the shore. I noticed in the statement yesterday that ITC wrote something I interpreted as they should not take the normal route into WM.

I will post a picture when I am on the computer and not just phone. They seemed to be divided in three groups, but all are doing well and no one is by themselves.

This time I'm showing Magnus Kaltenborns path, it didn't show me anything for Martin or Grayson, I guess that is something in the map software, they are quite a bit off course.

Someone in Elim snapped a group photo as well :)

Also from ITC:

If you are watching on tracker you may notice the Elim 11 are taking a route a little off course. The trailbreaking team, that is in front of them, is creating a safer trail as they head into White Mountain. Mushers should be there about 1:30–2 p.m. this afternoon. The teams will head out from White Mountain tonight after their 8 hour layover.
.

I think this time schedule is correct for Martin, Grayson, Magnus, Riley and Deke. The group of five are going a bit slower.

...and the finisher banquet should have been tomorrow, at 4pm Sunday. So.. if the banquet hadn't been canceled these mushers would have made it :) 2pm, leave at 10pm.. then they would have had 18 hours to get from WM to Nome.
