Koyuk > Elim > Golovin Bay > White Mtn

Thomas Waerner is out of Koyuk at 1:35 pm, trotting along, with 12 dogs after just over 4 hours' rest. He's already nearly half-way to Elim.

If Jessie and Aaron stay 4 hours, they should be leaving in the next 20 minutes or so.

I'm wondering if Brent is going to leave with them? Remember he rested 3 hours out on the ice and so only had to run 4 hours to get into Koyuk.

Things don't look any more promising for our band of mashed potato sloggers.

Thomas is 5/6ths of the way to Elim (mile 836 - Elim is mile 852) and going along at a blistering 6.3 mph.

Meanwhile, Jessie, Aaron, and Brent are not actually making 5 mph. The exception seems to be Mitch who's flying along at 7.3 mph and has passed Aaron and is setting up Jessie in his sights. Why? Are his dogs used to the hot weather, so aren't affected?

Wade seems to have opted for the safe "extra rest" option, and his sled is still sitting in Koyuk on the live camera.

With less than 2 hours of rest. Is this the mistake he shouldn´t have been making?

We have seen people taking short breaks in Elim before, as they got a long rest in WM, but.. he could have rested for one more hour and still be out long before rocket-Mitch will arrive.

844 - 833 - that is 11 miles, roughly two hours before Mitch will be in Elim.

Beside that, perferct timing, he will get a night run to WM, rest during the warm temperatures of day and get a evening/night run to Nome.

Interesting views from Dallas, saying Thomas move made the race more interesting by this move, I think everyone is a bit pussled why did this.

The rest/run timing is a good point. He might be thinking about this. And his speed over to Elim is quite ok. So it´s not like he´s slowing way down.

Admittedly this is just a snapshot, but:

White Mtn: mile 898
Thomas: mile 851 = 47 miles to go
@ 6 mph = 7.8 hours
@ 7 mph = 6.7 hours
@ 8 mph = 5.9 hours

Mitch: mile 838 = 60 mile to go
@ 6 mph = 10 hours
@ 7 mph = 8.5 hours
@ 8 mph = 7.5 hours

If Mitch keeps his speed up, and Thomas' speed stays down, it could be quite close coming into WM...

Yes, but Mitch need to take some rest too. Dallas said that he think Thomas will win this anyway, as long as he doesn't need to stop on trail to WM, but it certainly wasn't what Dallas would have done.

We have seen people resting shortly in Elim, cutting rest to gain, but he was in a weird position to do that. It might have been his plan to cut rest in Elim to gain and he wouldn't change plan or he could have miscalculated. Anyones guess :)
