White Mountain - Safety - Nome

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Good question Libby. I don't know, would that be considered outside help?

Most likely there are food from other mushers drop bags?

And, the trio in WM has left! Sean, Tom and Matthew.

Boy, are there going to be some stories.

The video of Mackey's finish was pretty heartwarming.

Wish I'd upgraded to the GPS-inclusive version of Insider now.

RAIMIS2, for years I've complained about Insider and it's many faults, for a few years I even refused to pay money for something that did not work a lot of the time, for me anyway. This year I bit the bullet and paid for Insider with the up-grade. I have been very pleased with how it has worked for me. QRILL reports are interesting and informative. Only thing I, personally, would like to see changed is on the GPS system, the tenths of a mile should be listed, that would give a better idea how close mushers are to each other. OH yes, the cam system at the arch needs work. And people should learn to NOT stand in front of the cam(s) when a team is arriving. And I want to see more dogs.

The trio who left WM some hours ago has stopped on the beach for some hours. On my phone I am not able to get Matthew's tracker but I assume he is just covered by one of the two others. Now they are green, but still at the same spot..

Wait... this is what Matt's tracker looks like:

The lines that go off the edge of the page go into infinity, so are just tracker-glitches (maybe from being submerged into water?).

Did someone go and rescue him by snowmachine, and someone else is driving the team into Safety?

That will be my guess. As long as he and his team is safe..

The live feed chat says he was picked up by a blackhawk helicopter and someone is bringing team in. Who knows? No confirmation.
