.. and Ramey is past. Still going 9.1 mph to Wade's 6.7 mph... Two miles to go to the finish.

...and now maybe a third race - Pete has his sights on Michelle. They are two miles apart, with 10 miles to go. At their current speeds, they will hit Front Street at the exact same time.

And Ramey gets 11th!

His wife and two children are at the finish line (rare, seemingly, for this year's race). Dogs are panting, but look good from their exertion. Gives his wife a bag of snacks for the dogs. Children loving on the dogs - dog blissed out but not interested in snacks.

"Every one's different, that's for sure. This one was making sure the dogs had a good time - which is pretty much what ID is about. Enjoyed watching the leaders - the dogs develop and take charge "we can do this". Had much higher aspirations, but sure everyone else in the race did too. Dogs just pulled the whole time. Good teamwork."

Puts his younger child on the sled bag for the ride to the dog lot.

Wade in 12th:

Wife Sophie is in the chute. Arrives with seven dogs, wearing their purple coats. Dogs eating their snacks.

"We just had a bit of a slower go at it this year - the dogs were slower. They were always happy and barking, but never really had the speed to keep up with anybody. Right from the start, though, wasn't anything particular in the race."

Saw a little bit of everything [weather-wise?]. His feet are soaked.

He has Jet in single lead, whole team are pretty much leaders, but Jet wanted to lead coming in here, so she got the job.

First time in career got passed from WM to Nome, and the first time he got passed from Unk to Nome.

Wants a shower.

As they leave the chute, Jet is barking to go, and one of his wheel dogs is barking and lunging. :)

Pete is running out of trail to catch Michelle - she's holding him off admirably.

Three miles to go and she's two miles ahead of Pete.

Michelle in 13th

Dogs looking attentive, munching their snacks. Handler (might be Ed, can't tell with the hood up). removing booties and tossing them to the kids on the barrier.

Announcer says Michelle trained as a figure skater - I did not know that. Met Ed, who introduced her to mushing.

She says it was interesting to see behind the scenes - she appreciates a lot more what it takes to put on the race with all the volunteers, etc. Question about camaraderie and teamwork on the trail. She says she worked together with Paige (who has a beautiful dog team), who's a good friend and she's happy for her finish.

Favorite part - is normally the Blueberry Hills, but this year it was dark. She loved the full moon going through Rainy Pass.

"Obviously you always want better, but I'm happy with team. We had challenging weather - it was really warm and I have hairy dogs. But they did wonderful, and I learned a lot and will be back again next year."

Yes, very impressive.

The next rookie, has just passed Safety and will claim 19th place. That isn't bad either for a rookie run. The third rookie in line is arriving White Mountain now.

There´s a drama unfolding between WM and Safety. Mushers are turning back. Mushers are stopping, not moving. Check the gps, rewind it to around 11am and follow the mushers leaving WM. :o :o :o
Mmmmmm...... Unalakleet... DO'H!!!

This is the chute web camera. I hope someone clears it before Tom Frode comes. He is two miles out..
