Big Red Lays First Egg of 2020

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Just as this strange race is ending another passion of mine starts.

Big Red the red tailed hawk at Cornell University in New York has laid her fist egg of this year.
Since most of us are staying home I hope you can take time to watch and learn about these birds.
Maybe you too we become addicted.
All my children have four feet and fur.

I saw that! I knew they had been seen mating, but thought it was a tad early for eggs! Do you know when she first layed last year? I looked at the cam last night, she looked miserable, wet, cold and windy.

They are a wee bit earlier than last year, but not by much historically. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mz29G6Mt-mTHJz0XoBmIL0AV7kC6-3VYX9k074BpK0g/edit#gid=1195911031
