All Alaska Sweepstakes

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

They're all executing different run/rest strategies. Heehee .. another interesting aspect about the AAS .. mushers ... or should that be dog drivers  .. don't have to sign out of checkpoints ... makes it difficult to calculate the run/rest ratios

I'll joyfully join in the chorus of group howls for Sonny

aaaWWWWOOOOWOOOOWOOOOOOooo

Hee .. Mitch into Candle 15:30:00 .. wonder if he kept going too

crazy pace, im guess its just due to the closeness of the check points, but also that is not nearly as half as long as the irod...just hope those guys remember to rest their dogs plenty...im sure they will.

dilli whats the winning time for the kobuk 440 average at? could give us some idea of modern times on a 400 miler race.

Mitch did Gold Run to Candle at 13.47 MPH WHEW!!! I guess with as little rest as there is they must be packing dogs to keep rotating and keep them fresh. They can't rotate mushers though

PS If you don't know, click on the musher's name tab at the bottom of the standings and it will give you mph between points. Helps to figure where they are getting a little rest

There was also a reference to mushers getting in harness with the team. Maybe that's where "Iron Man" Johnson got his name :?: What percentage of your team can you have in the basket, when you harness up too? Hmmm!

Also, if you dont know, to see more Checkpoint (CP) summaries click the arrows at bottom left of page to get Ordered entries into that checkpoint. I was only seeing a few checkpoints on the bottom list, until I realized I had to do that. Wow, what a fast paced race, hope these mushers rest enough soon so that the whole team can finish.

The breaking new on KICY, after listening to 2 hours of religous talk, is that no time makeup for staggered starts will occur, so that the first musher into Nome is this years winner. Also KICy gave 3 hour old checkpoint Candle info.

Hey lower48- How many of us have that station running on our computers? I think only 10 people can listen at once. I have had it on most of the day :D
