2021 specific race rules

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. 2021 specific race rules

Postby Breeze » Fri Feb 12, 2021 4:06 pm

we will need to refer to this in idit 2021. so perhaps a mod will start a sticky post for this year's special race rules ?

Three mandatory layovers:
24-hour at any official checkpoint between the Skwentna to Iditarod stretch, including Skwentna or Iditarod. Must be taken before going on to Flat for the return.
8-hour at any official checkpoint between the Rohn to Rohn stretch, including either Rohn stops. On a normal route, this would have been taken between the Shageluk to Kaltag stretch.
8-hour at Skwentna on the return trip. On a normal route, this would have been taken in White Mountain.

That last 8hr could bea game changer!!!!!! can sea mad dash to the finish with dogs "going home" picking up to thr finish line.

Who lives and trains those trails? Could be an advantage

Thanks, Breeze. That helps my visualization of the race tremendously.

YW, Moose. Virtually everything about this race will be different, we may as well tackle what we do know instead of wrestling with what we can't yet know. {{ u }}

Also worth mentioning, Takotna is not a checkpoint this year nor Yentna. They are both marked on the GPS map, but in orange.
