Deshka Landing > Finger Lake

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Deshka Landing > Finger Lake

Postby elsietee » Sun Mar 07, 2021 8:04 pm

Greg H just did a quick livecast around 6 pm AK. He and Liz [missed her last name] were waiting at the start for their 'plane to take them to Finger Lake to see the teams coming in there. Mr Bodie (forget his first name) is already installed in Rohn - not taking any chances on getting locked out due to weather.

After FL, Liz will then be hopping up to Rainey Pass and staying there for a while to cover the mid/back pack.

Greg mentioned that Yenta Station isn't a checkpoint this year. Despite that, there are a slew of mushers camped out there - Wade, Matt F, Larry D, Cindy Gallea, Susannah, and Jeremy Traska.

The front runners are loping along at 10.5-11 mph... while Nic is going 12.5 mph.

Is there anyone on here who didn't get the GPS trackers this year, so needs more details?

Ryan is also clipping along at a pretty good pace, near 12 mph.

When the first metro reaches Skwentna it'll be time for lights out here. I'll check in in the morning. I have to remember this is day one and I don't need to check my phone during the night for updates!!!

It's so early, most of them are quite close together.

Ryan Redingtong has left FL, FL is at mile 123, Ryan is now at 128 (doing ~10mph).

Sass and Dyche is resting on trail, a couple of miles before FL (mile 121). Sass has stayed there for an hour.

https://iditarod.com/eye-on-the-trail-people-joe-and-norma-of-skwentna/Nice article about Joe and Norma. I'm sure they are watching from somewhere, and having a great time. I sure miss them! :(

Same here. I was FB friends with Norma. It seems they don't come any sweeter.
