Mandatory rests

So.. this year they must take 8 hour rest Rohn to Rohn (that is the yukon river rest) and 24 hour somewhere outbound (including Iditarod).

The 8 hour rest could be taken on.. like half the trail. I wonder how this will affect the plans. Will someone for instance, take the 8 in Rohn so they can go all the way to Iditarod (it's usual someone who go that far anyway). Most mushers usually take the 24 in McGrath-Takotna-area (including Nikolai and Ophir) and I guess this will be true this year as well, but I'm hoping for someone to be a bit creative about this one :D

Takotna is usually very popular but is not an option this year, as it is not an official checkpoint.

Looks like Rick Casillo is doing 24h in Rohn. He can leave Rohn 10th March 00:33

Brenda Mackey, Matt Hall,Dennis Kananowicz and Will Troshynski finished their 8h interior rest in Rohn (northbound).

I guess a lot are busy with 24h rest in McGrath.

Matt Hall, Martin Buser, Ryan Redington, Riley Dyche, Paige Drobny and Aaron Burmeister took 8 in Nikolai.

Gunnar Johnson is doing 24 in Nikolai, he can leave March 10th 08:33.

This is so messy, with 8 and 24 hours mixed together.. Dallas has been 8 hours and 18 minutes in McGrath, his GPS is not moving so I guess he is doing 24.

If that is the case, Dallas can leave March 10th 16:24

Jessie Royer, Nicolas, Mille, Ryne, Jeff Deeter, Wade, Travis, Joar, Richie, Peter has all stayed in McGrath more than 2 hours. I guess most of these are doing 24.

Thanks for untangling this Mira. It helps to see it set out like this. :D

Some of the mushers were claiming their 24 and their 8 hours rest in same checkpoint. I guess if dogs are raring to go after the 8 they can head out, but if need more rest stay. Really taking the 24 and 8 would be almost like YQ's 36 hour rest.

I doubt anyone will double, not sure it is allowed. But of course, declaring both give them the possibility to choose after some sleep

Brent is headed to Iditarod for his and yet to do an 8 .

Couple of ideas come to mind, run to half way and 24' then 8 at rohn and 8 at skwentna and blast to the finish.

Or

8 at McGrath, 24 at Iditarod and skwentna and run home

Leaving time for McGrath 24h resting mushers, Matt Hall is also finished with his 8 hours. It's 5.5 hours to McGrath (roughly) and then 12-14 or something to Iditarod? I don't think there is a rabbit this year.. yet :)

(musher - date time)
Dallas Seavey - 10 16:50 (04:50pm)
Joar Leifseth Ulsom - 10 17:56 (5:56pm)

Travis Beals - 10 18:29 (6:29pm)

Peter Kaiser - 10 18:59 (6:59pm)
Richie Diehl - 10 18:59 (6:69pm)

Wade Marrs - 10 19:55 (7:55pm)
Jessie Royer - 10 21:03 (9:03pm)
Nicolas Petit - 10 21:47 (9:47pm)
Ramey Smyth - 11 00:03 (00:03am)
Matt Hall - 11 01:18 (01:18am)
