Sun Dogs

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Glad to report that Newton Marshall had a great run of the the Percy! As to how he inspired his dogs down the trail.....
"Seventh place, the last place with a monetary award, went to the most
unusual entry in the race Newton Marshal, (24:10) from Jamaica, took
the award. He said he encouraged his dogs on the trail by singing
reggae songs."

8-) Cool Mon! 8-) Hope they make it to the Yukon Quest next year, if I remember correctly that was their goal.

We are off on a cruise now that the big races are done. Our first port of call is Jamaica so naturally we are going to see those Jamaican sled dogs. So excited!
Just had to share a couple of You Tube videos that I am sure all iditabuddies will enjoy

First one is Devon (JDSled) in the Yukon. Their mentor in North America is Hans Gatt so they are in good hands.

This one is showing Rob who is also with the JDS team. It is quite funny as Rick Mercer is a Canadian reporter with a nutty sence of humor who is commenting on the Haliburton trials which the Jamaican team participated in..enjoy

and finally some fun dog sled music out of Mishigan

Fun videos. Thanks, Minip for the links. Here's one to a cool blog about the team. Besides finishing in a very respectable 7th place in The Percy, Newton won the Sportsmanship Award!

Now we've get yet another team to follow! :D

That's right, FPF. They can be your "home town" team...or home regional...or home climate! :D

Thank you for the link Moose.
I am looking forward to seeing some JSD mushers at the farm in Jamaica when I am there. Sure hope so.
Their place is a very popular tour choice.
