Finger Lake to Rainy Pass to Rohn

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

The live feed on Insider has been going between Rainy Pass and finger Lake, showing the mushers come in. Looks rather warm out there, and lots of people.

Surprised Hunter Keefe is running with the big guns!

Think Hunter has been trained by the Redingtons, so is mimicking Ryan's moves. They have been travelling together.

Ritchie, Brent, and JessieH all resting just past Rainy Pass, so they'll have nice fresh teams to go through the pass.
Expect them to run straight through Rohn and rest in near the lake about a third of the way to Nik.

I'm curious about Eddie Burke who's been trained by Aaron B (think he's running Aaron's old dogs?) and Tony Browning.
Aaron will have him on a suitable schedule, which right now is also mimicking Ryan Redington. So both Hunter and
Eddie (as rookies) appear to currently be on the same schedule, so it'll be interesting to see if/where they divert.

Matt Failor, with a new baby on the way and hinting that his body is starting to age, also wants to do well this year,
since wondering if he'll retire after this year (at least for a while?).

From Sophie Marrs' FB post:

Iditarod Race Director Mark Nordman reported that the route from Rohn to Nikolai has the worst moguls in race history.
“Imagine a washboard except every ridge is 4ft high. So it’s just up and down, up and down.”

Seems like lots of people had the same idea - less front-runners camped at Rainy Pass, but lots in the valley approaching the pass:

Ryan Redington has broken away from Hunter, and Nic is nearly to Rohn.

Is this them?:

(Looks like Ramey Smyth is taking a break before tackling them)

Thanks all! Since we are on the road with infrequent access, I won't have insider this year. Appreciate the posts very much!!!
