Trying to gauge, from the trackers, how long people really took on the stretch from Ophir to Iditarod. Dallas and Travis were straight off their 24s in McG, while Brent, Aaron, and Mille were still headed in for 24.

These are rough, based on squinting at the graphs on the trackers:

Brent: 13h 47m (rest: 3h 15m) = 10h 30m total running time
Aaron P: 14h 50m (rest: 4h 15m) = 10h 35m
Mille: 13h 19m (rest: 3h 15m) = 10h
Dallas:13h 12m (rest: 4h) - 9h 12m
Travis: 9h 14m (rest: 3 h, but in Ophir) = 9h 14m

So on average, those front three, headed into their 24s were 45m - 1h 15m slower. Was that because of rougher trail? or because they were going slower headed in to their long rests?

And because they waited longer, will their dogs stay fresher longer than those who rested earlier ('finstance Dallas left McG 10 pm on 10th... Brent will leave ID at 6 pm on 11th, so Brent's dogs will be 20 hours "fresher" than Dallas'?).

At this point, Dallas is roughly 3 hours ahead of Brent (assuming D takes a 4 hour rest in ID).

I'm on the same page with you. Somewhere, I think from one of the live Iditarod (checkpoint) reports, Dallas has declared his 8. He doesn't have to take it, but Bruce seemed to think he would. That puts him back out on the trail at the same time as Brent.

And a trek back over the burn, the gorge and the steps is very different from a charge up the coast. How will that effect strategy and run/rest? 8-)

...and there goes Dallas' tracker at roughly 3 pm, leaving ID. So he rested for 3h 45. I presume he'll run to the cabin, rest again, then run to McG?

Off to start a reverse "Iditarod > Ophir > McGrath" thread.

Larry D in McG:
Biffed up his sled and broke a side stanchion on the way to Rohn. Bruce Lee helped him fix it, but he's glad to have a spare in McG. Also hurt his wrist. Says they have x-ray stuff in McG, but he can still use his fingers, so he doesn't want to do that (thinks it's considered "outside assistance", so he'd be out of the race).

Said the Burn was "great" this year [compared to others that said it was the worst - he said it was snowing when he went through] - just enough snow to make it easy. Rohn and all the water crossings in the Gorge were the hardest for him. He's running Mitch's puppy team (who are tour dogs during the season). "One of strongest teams" he's run in the race. This will be the furthest they've gone, but he's had zero problems with them and they're getting better. Will probably drop one dog at McG - isn't eating great and has lost weight. He wants the dogs to have a good time, so if they aren't, he's happy to send them home.

Susannah:
"I'm leaving a touch late, which I'm sure my BF at home has noticed, but I'd rather leave late with my head on straight than try to rush". Taking it one run at a time. Feels it's SO important to stay upbeat for the dogs - it's crazy how much you have to create your own positive energy. Have to be careful not to slip into negative thoughts.

Hal Hanson:
SOO happy with "his guys" - loves that he's trained them to do this. Says they're like teenaged boys on cocaine at times - great for uphill, but a little dicey on the downhills. Marvelling at the beauty of the countryside - said he stopped on Rainy Pass just to look around.

Victoria in McG:
Ran into a tree on the Steps, but the sled didn't fall apart until she was leaving Rohn, so she was fixing it out there. She was txting her BF using her Delorme GPS to see if she could find another sled and they suggested Aliy's, so she turned around and went back to Rohn - but by the time she got there, they'd already disassembled Aliy's sled, so then they were helping her fix the busted sled to make it more secure and so it would make it through the Burn - and it took a bit of time.

The whole front bow broke off, so when she stopped the team it fell down and the only thing holding her team were the two brake lines. She thought it was all over at that point, But fortunately she was able to rethread some screws and use her ski poles and snow shoes and some trail markers to hold it all together. It was on the river and there was overflow, so she didn't have a lot of stuff to work with.

Said her spare sled needed a few repairs before she will hit the trail. She also wants to disassemble the "fix" because she wants her ski poles back.

Going to drop one dog who isn't doing as good as the others.

Says the trails have been awesome.

Pic shows:
Red = her snow shoe, trying to raise up the front of the bow
Turquoise = Trail markers
Green = her ski poles
Dark Blue = a wodge of duct tape holding it together with some rope.

More from Victoria:
Broke off one of her standing grips too, so she couldn't stand.

Here's the Tracker view of her backtracking (dark pink line) - she got maybe 1.5-2 miles out of Rohn before turning around. She contacted her BF because she didnt' want them to worry seeing her stopped for "no reason" out on the river. Her BF contacted Aliy's people to see if she could borrow the sled.

Yikes. She MacGyver'd that pretty well, though I wouldn't trust it for too many miles. :o

She had no choice - she had to have it hold together until she could pick up her spare sled in McGrath. And hold it did. :)
