Iditarod > Ophir > McGrath Headed Home...

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Did anyone notice Will Troshynski look like he went pretty far off course heading into Iditarod? Looks like he took off and wound up at the Tolsoi Headwaters Safety Cabin. Also looks like Sass went up that way, but didn't stop at the cabin. It's pretty far off the trail? Anybody else have an idea?

And here goes Brent, it looks like he was stopping, according to tracker color, but I don't think he did.

Jeremy and the team took off from Iditarod this evening, went about eight miles, and then turned around and returned to the checkpoint. He has been sitting there for almost six hours now. We don’t have any idea what’s going on, but know that they could use all of your prayers right now! There was word of a bug going through some of the teams, so maybe the doggies are sick and he’s taking extra time to get them feeling better. Right now, that’s our best guess. It’s really stressful not knowing. But whatever is going on, Jeremy is giving them lots of love and time to regroup. So we are asking all of you to do what’s most important right now...PRAY!

Huh. Whatever it was, he sorted it out, because he's back on the trail headed north, currently resting with Dakota, Victoria, Sean, and Dennis 65 miles north of Iditarod. And he was making good time when he set out again.

I think he was leading the rookies at that point, so maybe just misjudged his rest and opted to err on the side of caution (given the long slog north to Ophir). Either way, it looks like he fixed it by the rest in ID.

Looks like Will is back at the Headwaters Safety Cabin. Either he's really lost, or he just likes the cabin. Has anybody else used that cabin?
