Lance Mackie - some very sad news

Postby Moose » Sat Sep 10, 2022 5:47 am

In case you missed it, Lance passed away Wednesday. There are many tributes and conversations on Facebook and articles to pull up via search engine. Here's the first one that popped up for me:

A legend in his own time. A legend for all time. He will be sorely missed by so many friends, fans, and of course family.

There are a number of videos on The Iditarod Facebook page available to the public.Use this link and scroll down a couple of posts. Really good stuff: https://www.facebook.com/TheIditarod

Many of Lance's competitor-friends are posting memories and photos as well. Most of them are public. I haven't checked kennel websites as there's so much available on Facebook.

Suddenly, the world just isn't the same.

So sad to read this news. He really was a dog whisperer.

I'm sure we all are reeling.

I'll just say that so much of Lance was Lance to the bone. I won't live long enough to think of him as legend. He was as real to me as dogs singing the songs of their people, and as real as giving 100% effort in any and every situation. He was optimism, he was joy, he was who he wanted to be every day of his adult life. Many of us don't ever get to live that way without alienating some others. Lance did certainly ruffle feathers, but he also had a deep heart.

Lance WILL become legend, oh yeah. He'll just always be very, very real to me.

I've been watching some of the Lance videos/interviews over on Insider. That guy was the absolute, ultimate, and unequivacle dogman. And despite his talent and accomplishments, as humble as humble pie. I still feel a lump rise in my throat and tears well up in my eyes watching him on the screen. There will never be another. Fans and dogmen/women will speak of him for generations to come. RIP, Lance. Peace to him and the dogs that met him on the other side.

Well said Moose! (Check out the trailer for the movie about Lance called Wild Life, Brian posted it on the BSSD FB site.) Seems so unreal to think he isn't on this planet any more  I remember him on the sidelines of a lake last year for the first day. Was so sad to see him as a spectator vs racer, I'm sure it was hard for him to watch too. Anyway, good to know so many are remembering him & his legacy!
