News, Articles, and Interesting Stuff 2023

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Might jog us all to revisit our TTP. I had NO idea that Jesse and Brent went out to the coast to help rebuild after the typhoon. Much less about the drama of rescue.

I know folks are having a tough time gearing up for Iditarod, Lord knows I've been sailing upwind, too. Just sit and dangle toes in the hot springs. Might be tempting to fall in.

Sweet article about the sweet Matthew Failor from a "hometown paper".

Don't see how putting a GPS tracker on the collar addresses the "Leon" issue since the reason he got away is that he slipped his collar.

Anyone know why Martin (Buser) isn’t racing this year? Haven’t seen why but might have missed it.

He simply decided that 39 times was enough. He says that he's not retired from dogs (doubt he ever will be, IMHO), but just retired from running Iditarod.

It's no secret that I have a soft spot for Kaiser Racing Kennel.

Here's some fun video from the ceremonial start. Pete's 10 yr old son Ari is on the tag sled from start to Campbell. Daughter and a couple of niece/nephew got to sit in the tag sled right up to the start line.

For all the adult drama in the mushing world, it touched my heart to see the Kaiser family keeping it together as a matter of course. Enjoy.

I found this interview on YouTube. Martin was interviewed by a7th/8th grade class about a month ago. The kids had some great questions! On their YouTube channel, they've also interviewed other people- Dee Dee J, Matt Failor, Matt's wife Liz

Ahhh had forgotten Martin had said last year was his last :(
We all have to slow down sometime, our own kennel ia now down to 5 dogs, kapik (14) Hidey, squeek, teabag and snippet (8) all her daughters. We lost 4 dogs in 18 months and this is now our last team after 27+ years of running dogs :(
