Kaltag-UNK- Koyuk- WM

Postby libby the lab » Sun Mar 10, 2024 7:37 am

WOW Kaltag was hopping last night. The top ten are sooooo close together. WIll be intesting to see who breaks Kaltag to SHK into 2 runs. Based on who is curently at Old Women (Beals, Holmes, Reddington, Drobny, Hall and Seavey) I think several will do that. Insider is planning on getting a camera crew to SHK this year! The availability of Starlink has made broadcasting really great this year! Usually 3 different checkpoints at once with the dashboard allowing you to chose which to view.
FYI currently -33 in Kaltag at 7:30 ADT!

Dallas rested on the ice, but is going steady to Koyuk.

Jessie Holmes and Matt Hall have left Shak, but haven't reached the ice yet.

So... I think it's approximately 1,5 day from Koyuk to None.. so we can soon start to estimate eta Nome. 16 hours to WM, 8 hour rest, 10 hours to Nome

Dallas is ten plus miles out of Koyuk already!! Sure looks like he will get number six this year. BUT in this race we never know what will happen.
I wish good luck to all the teams.

Yes ma'am, Fladog Fan! It looks like Ryan Redington, the defending champ, has not budged out of Unalakleet since yesterday at 4:18 pm...He may have hit a wall and is needing rest more than maybe he hoped for! At the same time, Mille and Jesse Royer have moved up a few notches and maybe picking up a bit more speed!

What's the betting Jessie and Matt are playing chicken with each other, and will mirror each other's movements out of Koyuk? Both running more or less the same speed on that last leg - Matt left Shak a minute ahead of Jessie (per the tracker), but Jessie passed him just before the shelter cabin on the spit. Was Matt's team slower to get going, or did Matt want to watch Jessie?

Travis, OTOH, stopped to snack (or switch leaders?) several times across the ice, and took 45 mins or so longer than them, arriving a couple of hours behind them.

The ice must be good and frozen this year, as they are following a pretty direct route from the cabin straight across to Koyuk.

Paige and Jeff are neck-n-neck across the ice - about 15 miles out.

Mille and Jessie are just past the cabin, with Mille pulling a slight lead (having left 5 mins behind J).
