Top Five Picks...CHECK YOUR PICKS...pm me to add time

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Sticks and stone may break my bones, but Brownie Crumbs don't hurt me... :D

Sorry, but we had to have a tie breaker w/ so few teams in this race...PLEASE don't send the wild turkeys after me.

working on my picks as we speak (type) :? :? :?

1. King in 78.571 hrs....give or take a couple of seconds. ;)
2. Lindnder...a tough, seasoned, and steady competitor...should do well on this rough trail.
3. Ramy Brooks (he's too smart and too well-rested not to have a good plan on this race, and he's too eager to redeem himself in many people's eyes not to show extremely attentive and diligent dog care...he'll finish with all of his dogs)
4. Iten
5. Seavey

While pulling off flower petals and hurling them at TSFR, FP revises her picks:

1. Jeff King-time 79.5 hours
2. Lance Mackey
3. Sonny Linder
4. Ramey Brooks
5. Ed Iten

I had Mariah Taylor Thomas Wolf as my 5th pick for female solidarity reasons, but she is no longer listed, and is not shown as withdrawn. The AAS site is running VERY poorly for me (and I have broadband), and I can't figure out what happened to her. Anybody know anything?

Edited for finish time afer a review of the AAS site. Thought they might set a record this year, but it doesn't seem likely.

Flowerpower .. This is what Miariah wrote in her bio when she signed up for the AAS

Write a little about yourself, your background, your dogs and why you have signed up for the 2008 All Alaska Sweepstakes:

As a representative of Tuluksak School and the Wolverine Racing Kennel, I would like to express an interest in having our team run the All Alaska Sweepstakes. I have listed myself as the musher, but this may change, as we are still undecided whether a 16-20 year old student will qualify to run the race, or if my co-teacher and local musher, Moe Napoka, will run the race. My racing background is not extensive, but my involvement within the mushing community is. I want our school team to run the All Alaska Sweepstakes to honor Pete MacManus, whose unfortunate accident first got me into competitive dog mushing and gave me the chance to run an Iditarod and All Alaska Sweepstakes team, whose wife Barbara provided me with the opportunity to become an educator, and whose legacy continues to inspire me to remain a strong supporter of dog-mushing as a cultural component in Alaskan schools.

I guess the student didn't qualify ... fellow teacher and local musher Fred Moe Napoka will be doing the honors mushing the Go Team Tuluksak School Go. :D

I think it'll be over 100 hours but I'll stick with that hour/minute/second - over 10' of snow in places?

yes braider but a good team from the "Breaker Clan" might pack that into a good, high banked "road to candle" ... ;)
