Trail is rumored to be pretty ugly by Telephone.

Lots of blowing powder snow in several trail sections

One section of groomed trail (unspecified) had collapsed into a 50' crevice (using DJ's term)

It was 9 degrees in Nome at start of race, light snow, light winds

Weekly weather forecast from NOAA
No wicked winds predicted !!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

I have a question-I know on other races the different start time is made up at the mandatory layover. What about in this race since there is no mandatory? Will there be an adjustment of any sort?

Never mind! I just saw a response on the 101 posting. :D

Great news! :D

I just got off the phone with KICY radio in Nome and they've agreed to put up a link to their audio of the race start. So look for it here: http://www.kicy.org/

The GM said they'd put up a link at the top of the page and said it's about 40 minutes long.

And Dilli: Thaks for your informative post above! I didn't even think about KICY or KNOM. I wonder if they'll be providing audio coverage of the finish. I need to find out about that. :geek:

Thanks for the report and photo, Dilli and Heidi! Dill, were you listening to the start somewhere?

There's good stuff on the website, but I have to double-click everything and everything loads with multiple jerks. Though patience is a virtue, it's not one of mine! 8-)

Oops. I guess that answers my question. Ask, and Heidi (or Dilli) will provide! Thank you. :D

Flower - Good question! Libby the lab asked it too on '101' thread. Here is Dilli's answer:

Quote from Dilli
'Good question libby the lab .. and here's your answer

http://www.allalaskasweepstakes.org/RaceRules.html

from INTERPRETATION OF THE RULES SUPPLEMENT

3. The time differential will be made up at a randomly selected checkpoint decided by the lead judge just prior to the race start at 10:00 AM on March 26, 2008. Mushers should not sign in at this checkpoint until the dog count and dog identification is verified by the checker and himself. The differential checkpoint will remain confidential until the first musher’s arrival at that point.'

Dilli - thanks for the radio info - you are amazing :) In fact, all of you are amazing!
