This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

I'm at that awkward age old enough to remember the staccato of morse code in th elocal train depot but not old enough to know anything about how they might have handle telegraph traffic in '08- '17 It seems if one knew morse code then they could tap out race info as the teams passed the telegraph pole the telegraph operator was assigned to. That is to say info could theoretically be transmitted between check points. The writings of the day seem to hint at that. eg. The bets were changed and changed again in ways reminiscent of the stock market. That level of activity seems to indicate a pretty steady stream of info or maybe a just a higher degree of inebriation than I'm experiencing!
Any thoughts? (Besides, another round)
