Interesting about Hossa. He's been awful in the play-offs with any other club, but when he moved to Pittsburgh he started playing like a (demi-)God.

The odds for Detroit vs Pens is pretty low now...

The Dallas Stars dug down deep tonight to beat the Detroit Red Wings, 3-1, in game 4 of this third round series. There will be a game 5 in Detroit Saturday afternoon. Sure would like to see the Stars get hungier for this than the Wings and take the next 3 games.

The Dallas Stars beat the Detroit Red Wings today, 2-1. This brings the game count in the series to 3-2, in favor of the Wings. The next game will be in Dallas. Dig deep again, Stars!

Halfway into the first periode of game 5: Pittsburgh are two-up against Flyers. Malone and Malkin.

Edit: Hossa and Crosby (credited, but it was Malone who scored) got two more and the march of the Penguins continue. Pens 4 up.

Edit 2: Staal scores and Pens lead 5-0 after two periods.

Edit 3: 6-0 Only a catastrophe can get Pens out of the Stanley Cup finals.

Edit 4: Pittsburgh crush Flyers and will play for the Stanley Cup!!! Woho!!!

The Wings finished off the Stars tonight by a score of 4-1. I missed the first period, but was very happy when I heard that the Wings were up 3-0. A shorthanded fourth goal in the early second period sealed the Stars' fate. The Stars scored a power play goal in the early third that seemed to give life to both teams and the rest of the third period was exciting to watch!

Thanks for a great series, Dallas! I'm glad that the Wings faced a little adversity against the Stars in games 4 and 5. It cured the overconfidence the Wings had and got them ready for the Penguins.

GoWingsGo... onto the Stanley Cup Finals!

Yes, our Dallas Stars lost the game and the series tonight against the Red Wings. We are proud of our Stars. They came a long way this year. The Red Wings and Penguins should be a good series for Lord Stanley's Cup.

And now the finals start. Pittsburgh vs Detroit. Two exceptionally good teams. Detroit with their foreign legion of Swedes up against the likes of Crosby, Malkin, Hossa, Malone and Gonchar. And Fleury. I think Pens have a better goalie than Red Wings, and Fleury could very well be the deciding factor.

Strangely enough these two teams haven't met during the regular season as teams from the Central division haven't been playing the Atlantic division, so it's going to be exciting to see how they react to each other.

My tip (from the heart) is Pittsburgh in 6.

Stanley Cup Finals Game 1

Postby Coaster » Sat May 24, 2008 5:12 pm

The game is scoreless after one period. It was a great period to watch. Both teams had good chances to score and Detroit had a goal waved off due to goalie interference. Shots on goal were 12-11 in favor of Pittsburgh but the Wings won 60% of the face offs.

Edit: After the second period, the score is 1-0 in favor of the Detroit Red Wings. Mikael Samuelsson scored a wraparound goal at 13:01 in the second period. Both goalies are hot right now so this game will probably remain a low scoring game. The Wings had 16 shots on goal and Pittsburgh had 4 in the second period.

Edit 2: Its over! Wings take Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals in 4-0 shutout. Mikael Samuelsson scored a second unassisted goal early in the third. The Wings sealed their victory with a shorthanded goal by Dan Cleary with 2:42 left and a Power Play goal by Henrik Zetterberg with just 10 seconds left in the game. Cleary's shorthanded goal was the sixth shorthanded goal that the Wings have scored in the playoffs. The Wings out shot Penguins 9-3 in the third and 36 -19 for the game.
