Sigrid Ekran and others -Ellesmere Island Expedition

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Ellesmere Expedition finished. Not without problems

According to the article the ice has melted so much that they had to change the route. Also, instead of flat ice on which they could do good speed they had to traverse difficult areas with speed down to just 6 kilometers a day.

They also saw surprisingly many polar bears during the expedition. They speculate that they (the bears) could be so far south because the ice conditions are poor further north.

Click on the picture below where it says ""Se bildene fra «blodslitet»"" to see more pics from the expedition.
