Police dogs are officers

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Police dogs are officers

Postby MotorWerk » Thu Jun 05, 2008 2:48 am

The Norwegian High Court yesterday decided that police dogs shall be treated as if they were regular officers. A man resisted arrest last year and kicked a police dog repeatedly to get away (he was caught in the end), and the HC has ruled that he can be tried for assaulting an officer.

Are there any similar laws in the US/UK?

I think the law varies from state to state in the US. Shooting a police dog is considered a crime, but the level of punishment seems to vary from state to state.

Hi Motor,

From what I've seen and heard, that's a yes....our police dogs are considered officers, as to what flower said, I agree...it does vary from state to state on how much officer staus they have, but the norm seems to be...a police dog IS an officer!!!! :D :D :D
