Pics from Norway

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Eskil...

Thanks, very informative, sounds kind of like our "charter schools", where you get a general education and a "specialty at the same time. For a strapping lad of 19 I would say the 35/55 ratio was heaven on earth...do they have curriculum's for for single middle aged adults that don't speak Norse?...wishful thinking I guess. :(

Great Thread...thanks MW, Tils and Esk...oh and FC, how could I forget you...ok Di* i see you too... :D

It is situated in northern Norway, in the city that holds the start and finish of Finnmarksløpet. Harald Tunheim, (I'rod ROTY '99, 12th '02), is a teacher there, and I thought I'd share some pics of him and his students in the dog mushing class.

The samis use every part of the deer, as I guees you did too? Did you make shoes out of it too? Clothes?

I was thinking that those shoes could be suitable for mushing. Very light and keeping you toes warm if using the traditional special grass inside for isolation. Discussed it briefly with my mushing friend. She had doubts for several reason. First; they are not water proof. Second - they come with a hook in the front, which can hook in the different lines and also the breaks.

The third thing, as I thought of myself, is their softness. If kicking while running, the feet may get sore from lack of protection.

Boy those look warm :D :D :D I just LOVE learning all these new things...Happy Dance!!!!! Thanks tilstede :D :D :D

Very interesting Eskil, thanks for the background. So you have mentioned being a teacher, do you teach outdoor skills stuff now? Sounds like some awesome schools, wish I could have done something like that when I was younger! :)
