Contest: When Are We Breaking 1000?

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Contest: When Are We Breaking 1000?

Postby Johncn » Mon Feb 11, 2008 6:28 pm

Hey Folks,

Had a meeting with the kids today, and many are excited about the coming Iditarod season. They may not be posting much yet, but they are visiting the board when they can. Once we get the Iron Dog racers out of the way, and send the teachers and students their passwords, things will start to snowball.

I was concerned at first that we would not be able to find moderators and users that would be able to manage the boards themselves...but I'm really pleased to report very, very few issues. What a great bunch of moderator volunteers we have 8-)

Not only is this board going to rock, but it's going to be self-sustaining. I'm very encouraged by the sense of community and collaboration you all have shown so far.

So...I'm offering an official BSSD polar fleece sweater or sweatshirt to the person who has the closest guess of the time of our 1000th post to the Mushing Talk Forum

Format: date = mo/day/year & time = hour:minute:second
Guessing Open Until: 2/12/2008 at 9:00 a.m. Alaska Time - Unless we go over first!
Fine Print: This is for the Mushing Talk Forum itself, not the entire board. Please don't post a certain number of times to force the event...even though you want to ;-) BSSD employees are ineligible. Dang. One guess with no editing, please, per user. Prize includes US Mail postage to where the winner lives. Color, style and size options are limited, but all are pretty nice, and usually only worn by staff here. But, we'll do our very best to find one that fits the winner!

Example: 02/11/2008 @ 17:36:01

We are currently at: 938 Posts

Thanks so much, folks. This going to be a great IditaProject year for the kids.

Duh! Okay. How about 2/13/08 7:49:35 pm (I guess that's 19:49:35?)

Edited to add: While I was figuring East Coast time in my calculation/guess, like SC says, make that Alaska time.

I'm going with 8:28am on 2/14 Alaska time... That's betting that Mith won't have left yet!!!
Proud PaPa of the triplet litter; Aidan (B), Bailey (G), and Cameron (B). Cameron is on top in picture; Bailey, of course, is the bowhead!!

I'll say 2/12/2008 at 12:12:12 pm!!! Alaskan time!!!

BTW, I am a former school teacher, so if you need help moderating teacher/student forums I could help if you could give me guidlines. I am new to message boards, but I know how to keep teachers and kids in line! hahahaha I now work for a grant and I will say that teachers are much more difficult to keep quiet in class than students. They also don't turn in the homework (grants and reports) on time!
