Volunteers need insurance?

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Volunteers need insurance?

Postby Tonichelle » Mon Feb 09, 2009 10:57 am

Talking with my grandfather the other day - he is a trail guard leader for the ceremonial start - he said that he got a phone call from one of the organizers giving him a heads up that each Volunteer will need to pay a $10 insurance fee this year. They're worried about injuries.

I haven't received an official email so I don't think the announcement has been made, or if my grandfather misunderstood and they are just talking of implementing it... but figured I'd give a heads up.
