2009 Poetry, Song and Limerick Thread

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Thanks for link Gatekeeper! I'm so down about Bjorner, but the Onion piece is just about the funniest thing I've ever read (even in the Onion!). Thank you!!!

I don't know if this is just for original works by members, but I felt I had to inlude this - to me, it says it all.

It is a song, The Husky's Code, written by Kyf Brewer and in the film Donna Quante did about Karen ramstead's training for an Iditarod - Pretty Sled Dogs.

It brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear it.

HUSKY’S CODE
Words and music by: Kyf Brewer © 2006

I will refuse to bite the open hand that cares for me,
I’ll keep my smile when you are down.
We’ll show each other endless acts of charity
‘Cause I feel most at home when you’re around.

I will defend your right to always be the wiser one,
An’ I’ll put my trust in your command.
An’ once we’re off its one for all and all for one,
The pack becomes a team from where you stand.

Refrain:
And I will be your guide beneath these Northern Lights
And you will be my shadow on the snow.
Whatever course you choose,
Whatever trail you’re on, I’m ready to roll.

You will prepare a place for me to rest my weary feet,
An’ I’ll serenade you ‘neath the stars.
I will be there pullin’ for you when you’re weak,
‘Cause happiness is anywhere you are.

REFRAIN
And I will be your guide beneath these Northern Lights
And you will be my shadow on the snow.

WHAT A WONDERFUL TEAM
Sung to Louis Armstrong (& Martin Buser's) What A Wonderful World

I see folks with cold toes, red noses too
They cheer on the dogs, as they come up the chute
And I think to myself, What a Wonderful Team

I see dogs of black, of brown and white
They run in the morn, and through dark of night
And I think to myself, What a Wonderful Team

The Aurora Borealis, so pretty in the sky
And the dogs lolling tongues, as the miles roll on by
The fans pat their heads, the dogs lick their face
What they're really saying, is "what a great race"

I hear all the dogs bark, I watch them all run
They gave their all, and that's why we won
And I think to myself, What a Wonderful Team
Then I say it out loud, "What a Wonderful Team"

Oh Yeah!

Such talent Brian, that is a beautiful song. You'll need to send it to Martin, he can use new words for his song.
I find myself smiling as I write this, it was so nice. :D :D :D Thank you.
