Bob, it's great to hear from you. So glad you decided to come join us here at the forum. We're a pretty friendly group of avid fans, and I'm sure you'll feel right at home. Thanks so much for writing the poem. It's truly a beautiful poem, and I was touched by it. Sometimes the best inspiration comes during trying times.

Well, here's my song. I realize after watching the Iditarod Insider video of Jim Lanier singing, that the idea isn't new. But mine is a bit different. It's a parody of "16 tons," which I believe was made popular by Tennessee Ernie Ford. I wrote the lyrics, with some help from my daughters. (In fact, we wrote part of it while standing in line to meet astronaut Clayton Anderson at the local observatory last night.)

For the recording, I played the piano, my two teenage daughters sang, and my husband added percussion and bass guitar tracks. Feel free to share the song or put it on your mp3 player, if you wish.

Sixteen Dogs
Some people say a dog is man’s best friend
Well, a husky is made to race to the end
Race to the end and relish the cold.
A back that’s strong and a heart of gold.

He was mushing as a baby with a pint-sized sled.

‘Cause a husky knows “hike” but he doesn’t know “whoa.”

thankyou one and all for the gracious welcome, i lived in eagle river alaska in 1980 until 1996.....went to every iditarod , and i think i have the pins from 1984 until now..plan on doing a shadow box for a display.....anyway thankyou for the great welcome and im working on a poem myself , im downloading the song marcia...i love the wording....when fishing the banks of the russian river , you say FISH ON...when you have one on the line......so here we say ...MUSH ON.....grizzman
