Word has that Ed has a sore back. Apparently his wife, Tasha ran the Beargrease in his stead...

Hope he heals up after missing last year's Iditarod due to snow.

Good morning all,
The UP200 is well on it way. Ed and one of his handlers Krister were off to a great start last night. Talked with Ed at the vet check in the morning, His back is good and dogs looked wonderful! Most of the dogs running on both teams will be making the long trek to Alaska on Wed. part of Ed's team and part in Jakes team.
At last standing Ed is in third, Tim Calhoun last year's winner in 6th, Krister in 12th. And Dr. Tim Hunt in 14th. Out of the four Tim C has dropped one dog.
It was a beautiful clear night and for the UP200 a rather warm start. According to the board Ed has the second speed time .

I am not going to make it to the halfway point this year but will rely on the boards to keep up. My son has art in the one day Glacier Slide (an outdoor art exhibit).
Keep you posted.

Good luck, Ed! Thanks for the update.

Here is an article I found about Ed's preparation for the Iditarod in 2005. Any idea how the logistics and food drops are going this year for him?

And, I'm posting this GREAT YouTube vodcast clip with Ed's team from MLive.com's Kim Schneider on another thread.

Drop bags are already on the way. Ed and company will leave from here on Wednesday for the drive. Both teams should be a great shape having spent the summer on the glacier giving tours.
UP200 Update Ed was 6th coming into 1/2 way point but had taken more rest than the top - so he is looking really good! Rodney in 21st at 3:01 with all 12 dogs and 12 hours of rest remaining. Ed had all 12 and so did Kristler.

The word on the street is that Rodney will leave on Wednesday also-

Hello,

One of my little robot friends turned up more U.P. coverage...won by 11 minutes and 25 seconds. That's STILL close in a 200 mile race  Thanks, Dilli!
