I wrote a little poem last year, as a parody of the famous Robert Frost poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" and posted it to the Cabela's forum last year. Someone posted it on this forum, and John suggested that he print it out, laminate it and have the kids post it at Old Woman Cabin when they go there next week. He suggested I ask you if it was okay. You can see the thread titled "Poetic Checkpoint 2008" for more info. Here is a copy of the poem:
Stopping by Old Woman Cabin on a Chilly Evening
(With apologies to Robert Frost)
Whose house this was, all mushers know.
She's gone to the hereafter, though.
She will not mind me stopping here.
To snack my dogs amid the snow.
My 14 dogs must think it queer
To stop without a checkpoint near.
Between the river and the trail,
The coldest evening yet this year.
They bark and start to wag their tails,
When they see me get out the straw bales.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of the ever present wind that wails.
Alaska's lovely, wild and deep,
But I've got to get to Unalakleet
I've miles to go before I sleep,
I've miles to go before I sleep.

John Nasset and I were planning on snowmachining out to Old Woman today to test the area for satellite reception. We are planning a live broadcast from the checkpoint. We had a small poster of your poem made and we were going to deliver it to the cabin. We have everything ready, but are unable to make the trip today due to snowmachine problems.

Since we have more time we are going to swap that background image with another one that is a little more appropriate if we can find one. We need a rustic type picture (without snowmachines) if anyone has one.

Hehe, good idea to find another photo .-)
Why don't use the trail and trees-photo you published in the forum some days ago?

Alright, here's another version. What do you all think? The picture is a scan from a hand drawn photo from the Iditarod historical archive. It was drawn during one of the first expeditions through the area to map out what we know now as the Iditarod Trail. The mountain in the background in Old Woman MT.

Thanks so much for doing this. The poem with the picture looks great! I can't wait to see a photo of it actually posted.
