Yukon Quest Snippets and Links

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Thanks mushkraut! They are indeed sneaky.

Brent has 35 miles to go, 5-6 hours? Hans and Allan is more or less together..

My hotspot data is used up, so following from my phone which is more difficult. Anyway looks like Hans has passed Allen! :o

So, that's it, right?
Sass wins.
And Gatt may pass Allen.
And the red lantern was probably settled by "it was announced that Strachnau was issued a time penalty of eight hours for failing to haul a dog in a secured and protected manner into Eagle, Alaska, as per Yukon Quest rule #41. This time penalty will be served in Two Rivers."

Brent certainly has a good position, with 10 miles to go and Hans Gatt 12 miles behind.

Allen is 6 miles behind and it seems to me to be slow going. Michelle is 9 miles behind Allen so I guess he should be able to stay in front of her.

Hans has done such a great job keeping that team together - and keeping their speed up.

Anxiously awaiting Brent's arrival.

There are some great photos coming out of Circle - this one in particular caught my eye - the size disparity in Ryne's lead dogs:

(tried to strip out the extra text, but missed and the link stopped working. I tried various right-click-dot-click options, but no deal).

Nice snippets from the mid/back pack:

From YQ:

Laura Allaway arrived at Circle and received a standing ovation after she guided her dogs skillfully into the dog yard. It involved wide turns and hard lefts, but the dogs listened and responded to her each command and "parked" just in the right place

Our first rookie into Circle is Martin Apayauq Reitan. He said it got so warm on the Yukon that he had to take his parka off as well as all of the dog jackets. Then when the wind picked up again, everything had to go on again.

I'm impressed with how few scratches there have been so far. (knock on wood, don't want to jinx them!) :P

At this time in the race there are 7 mushers in Central, 5 in 101, 3 in Two Rivers - Olsen and Strathe, nearing the finish, are the only two moving. :)
