This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Thanks for those thoughts Froze. Crossed my mind too - a case of 'are you thinking what I'm thinking'? All those factors together are a pretty potent mix. Stuck for words now . . . . thanks again.

We have seen it said and seen it happen before -- to good teams and good mushers. When the dogs stop having fun they stop.

I get a flashback to 2014. Did the dogs stop on him then? He had to scratch if I'm not mistaken. Was in a very good position.

We have seen other teams which were competing in or near the front of the pack stop in both the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest. Off the top of my head I remember Jeff King, Brent Sass, Paige Drobny, Hugh Neff and others.
If the dogs decide to stop, they stop!

Didn't Dee Dee's team stop close to Safety one year?
All my children have four feet and fur.

Feel sad for him. He moved a little bit, but had to return. No he is back at the shelter cabin resting.

He got going a little while back, moved a short distance forwards at 4 mph, then backtracked back to the cabin.
