2021 Spectating? - make that 2022

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

2021 Spectating? - make that 2022

Postby RAIMIS2 » Wed Nov 18, 2020 8:40 pm

Well, as in many past years I’ve been hoping this is the one I’d make it to.
I imagine ‘21 wouldn’t be the ideal situation, as It’s unlikely the.vaccine will be distributed yet - certainly not widely. But supposing one went anyway,.. prob masks and not much chance of chatting with/ meeting mushers, I’d guess. Or is it different up there, and things go on as if (pretending) all is normal? I do know they have had some pretty strict regulations in place in Alaska, and (even though I’d fly) uou can’t even drive through Canada to get there unless that’s where you live.

Alaska Covid-19 cases are soaring. This article explains that "the true number of new positive tests is actually significantly higher than the figures being reported, officials say, because state workers can’t keep up with data entry and the work of validating each case." "The real figures could be 25% to 50% larger than those being reported, or even more than that".

My sister and her husband live in Wasilla. 2021 was the year I was going up for about 6 weeks for the YQ and the Iditarod. I'm going to wait until 2022.

How about if we meet there in 2022?

That probably would make the most sense.

Told my wife "next year for sure!" (how many years have I been saying that?). She's not the Iditarod follower like I am but is up for going too. Hopefully we can pull it off!

This one looks great to me with Fairbanks add on. Only thing missing is Fairbanks by rail not air.

Well, I've booked the Iditarod start tour with Northern lights add-on so the Iditabuds will have "one on the ground" for the start of the race next March!
Proud PaPa of the triplet litter; Aidan (B), Bailey (G), and Cameron (B). Cameron is on top in picture; Bailey, of course, is the bowhead!!

Way to go Brent! Now if she enters you need to be Karin Hendrickson's Blue on Black Kennels Iditarider. You already have the shirt to wear.
