McGrath Checkpoint #1

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Looks kind of 'soupy' towards the west and Takotna.....wonder if that ceiling will lower and produce snow again today?

I just flew over the Alaska Range and McGrath (landing in Unk) from Anchorage and the clouds are breaking up past the range, saw a little of the Kuskokwim (south fork) and the clouds were breaking up on that side, so they may get a little of the sun. The clouds did not look like they had any precip only the fog that happens when warm meets cold weather, which I think they are.

Unk is warm too and fair on snow.

Don't look now, T, but someone on your team is awake and it looks like they're planning some mischief! :D

Good morning, fine people!

So they left Nikolai all in a neat row? Lance first, then Jeff, Kjetil, Paul, Zack and Hans Gatt. All within just over 2 hours.

Now ioneart shows Jeff in the lead, closing in on McGrath. Kjetil is in second, but is snacking. Mitch in third, with Lance on his tail. Hmmm, Zack and Hans are also there somewhere. Exciting.

Has Lance snacked/rested for a while on trail to do the push directly to Takotna? And is Kjetil doing the same thing right now?

Good morning Eskil. At the moment it looks like Jeff is in the lead, but only by a narrow margin. As you say this is a race :D :D No one want to let the others out of sight at the moment
