Takotna checkpoint #1

Right, next one up is Takotna, only 18 miles from Mc grath. Interesting to see if any of the frontrunneres stop there or blow straight through towards Ophir.

Good question. The trail is fairly good this year and the weather is not too bad so I would think that, at least some of the teams, may be tempted to go a bit further before they take their mandatory 24. Just a wild guess...... but, we will se what happends in a little while :)

It would seem we have a "gang of four" pushing towards Takotna. None other has yet left McGrath. It will be exciting to see who (if any) decides to take the 24 there. If the trail to Ophir is as good as suggested they might decide to keep going.

Takotna CP has got pretty good services for the mushers, right?

Indeed he is. But his speed isn't very impressive...

Edit: The tracker seems to have gone bananas, showing Lance behind Jeff and Kjetil...

My favorite part of the race is after all of them have taken their 24. :D That's when it gets good! :D

Kjetil is in Takotna, half an hour behind Lance. The fact that none of them has left yet is interesting.

They need a rest. Been racing for 9 straight hours by now. I guess they will take a 24 h mandatory in Takotna.

What about Jeff King? I was surprised that he wasn't in when they updated the statistics. The GPS data is a bit off at the moment, showing weird things :)
