MARTIN the Jokester

I'm sure by now you've all heard about Martin's escapades with the GPS unit, from Jon's article;

""Martin Buser proved to be a practical joker, for anyone watching the satellite tracker and wondering why Buser was suddenly shooting around the terrain at unreal speeds. He took the two pound tracking device off his sled, handed to a pilot and asked him to fly around for awhile. Just for laughs. Buser was wearing a loud, red Hawaiian shirt and plaid green and blue pajama bottoms for comfort while taking his 24. Son Rohn looked remarkable, coming here just three hours behind his father.""

Just had to post it though, this is classic Martin! Way to go Martin, keep'em guessin! :lol:

Thanks, Di. I hadn't seen that yet. His little shenanigans beg the question, was it a joke...or a statement? :o

Ohoh just heard that Martin is off the list for having a GPS! Guess they reassigned it to Silvia Willis.
Ah well, probably for the best, I know Martin didn't like big bro watchin him all the time...maybe they didn't think his handoff to the pilot was too funny? :roll: Gee we sure did! Would like to know if they offered him a chance to lose it or if he got in trouble?!

Here is the official announcement;

""Attention Race Fans!!

There have been a few changes to the list of mushers being tracked via
satellite. Refresh your pages to see the new listings. Changes are as
follows.

1. Dee Dee Jonrowe is on the map again. I don't know the details but after
being the first into cripple she asked to have the transmitter installed on
her sled again. The specific unit we had set aside for her has a faulty
temperature sensor but is otherwise OK. It always reports 70F so ignore temp
for Dee Dee. I'll try to block that out in the popup data but until I do it
will simply show up as way too warm.

2. Martin Buser and the other two mushers that we were tracking who
scratched (Jason Barron and Cliff Roberson) have been removed from the map.

The three units that previously belonged to Buser, Barron and Roberson may
be distributed to other mushers in the future.

... a phone rings... the future occurs ...

3. Buser's unit is now assigned to #40 Sylvia Willis

I cannot offer explanation right now, communication with checkpoints is
extremely limited. I receive commands to make changes and make em happen. I
have to go update all the people watching the race via PDA now.

Feel free to speculate amongst yourselves.

Marin is a great guy :D Had a look at II and the video of Martin coming into Cripple. He was in a really good mood and the first thing he said was "I'm just going to grab and roll" and then laughing when the guys at the checkpoint took himseriously for a moment. Se seems to have a lot of fun on the trail :D :D

:D Yea Aren I think you are right he does have a lot of fun out there. This is his 25th running of the race so I suppose he is pretty "at home" on the trail.
