Skwentna to Deshka AKA The End

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Travis Beals was late leaving Skwentna because he was waiting to have some fresh-baked banana bread some volunteers were making. #priorities

Anybody know what's going on with the back of the pack? Will T's tracker hasn't moved in hours, and the group that left after him is almost in FL.

The Standings show him leaving RP at 8:40 this morning. The tracker shows him 2 miles beyond RP. Something is up. No idea what.

He's finally moving. But he was there for over 8 hours. Looked like for awhile the others that were on the trail to FL were stopping and slow going. They're all finally moving along. They all seem to stop at the Steps. Wonder if they got wet and had to dry out?

Martin just pulled out of SKW. Team looks less than enthusiastic. Hopefully they shake off the stiffness.

Hal Hanson got off the trail a bit before FL. If you replay the tracker, you can see he goes astray as he crosses the Happy River, then backtracks.

It took Daugherty 10 hr 13 min to go from RP to FL. That's only 30 miles, so something happened, I think. :? :?

It sounds like the horses at Rainy Pass continued to be a problem, so they're having the mushers go through the checkpoint and camp out past it. (Check out Danny Seavey's post here: https://www.facebook.com/seaveysididari ... 8505315002) Rewinding the tracker, it looks like that's what happened - instead of taking his rest in the checkpoint, Larry took it a couple of miles past, which is why his run time seems so long.
